How to Style a Retro Glam Event: Vintage Meets Disco Luxury (The Ultimate Guide!)
The blog topic that we have been dying to talk about is finally here, and it’s all about disco, luxury, and vintage vibes!
Let’s dive into the ultimate retro glam aesthetic, where vintage charm meets disco fever with a sprinkle of rock and roll. If you’re planning a wedding or an event that you want to ooze personality, texture and unapologetic fun, then this is the blog for you.
We’re breaking down our favourite elements that scream the best parts of retro glam.
1) Texture, Texture and even more Texture.
The key to achieving disco luxury is layers. The more, the better (within reason, of course!). Mixing textures creates a space that feels rich, immersive and lavish. To create the retro glam aesthetic, we’d suggest:
Velvet and Plush Fabrics
Velvet brings that lush, dramatic feel, whether that be in seating or other draped accessories. We are also huge fans of Persian rugs to add warmth and comfort to a design. Vintage, colourful, and effortlessly cool, they tie everything together giving a cohesive look, top to bottom.
Faux Fur and Reclaimed Wood
Faux fur adds indulgence and glamour, while reclaimed wood balances out the glam with an organic feel. Think crate stools accented with a fur throw.
Disco Balls (and not just hanging from the ceiling!)
Disco balls aren’t just for hanging! We love to scatter them, place them into floral arrangements or let them reflect light in unexpected corners. They create the most magical ambience when placed cleverly!
2) Lighting
Lighting can make or break a space, especially when creating a disco-style scene. We believe it is all about the placement, creating nooks whilst cleverly beaming onto certain features and props.
LED Light Tubes and Rope Lights
One of our favourite ways to uplift areas and create interest is with our LED light tubes or rope lights. They are perfect for photo backdrops, illuminating walkways, around seating areas or lighting up the dance floor (literally!). Our tube lights come in six different bold colours, too!
Cosy and Vintage Lighting
Warm lighting from a corner lamp or a table lamp offers a cosy, homely feel and works perfectly within a lounge. Our favourite lamp? It has to be this leopard print one. And, of course, don’t forget our large range of vintage brass candleholders and lanterns, perfect for dressing coffee tables, dining table scapes and crate stacks, casting a warm, romantic glow when paired with our battery dinner candles.
3) Colour
Colour, for us, is where the magic happens. When styling a ‘retro glam’ theme, we’ll often pick out deep, rich hues like burnt orange, ochre, deep reds and gilded golds to set the scene. We’ll work these shades into backdrops, signage, florals and even tableware to give maximum impact.
4) Lounge Areas and Styled Furniture
As a furniture and prop hire company, it will come as no surprise that we adore using furniture to set the scene. Our favourite piece of furniture for telling a story is always a button-back of some variation. Whether that be an armchair or a sofa, leather or velvet, they’re all full of personality and character.
When adding the final touches to your styles spaces props are everything, giving an eclectic aesthetic and adding heaps of personality; think vintage TVs, phones, old-school speakers, and vinyl records. Use records as table décor, signage, or even chargers for an extra punch of personality. We love personalising these props creating something truly special and tailored to the brand or event.
Your event, your rules!
At the end of the day, your event should feel like a true reflection of your vibe. Whether it’s a statement cake, your playlist of dreams or tailored decor moments, don’t be afraid to break the rules and make it everything you have ever wanted. After all, retro glam is all about personality, nostalgia and a good time…
