5 Innovative Ways We Are Making Our Festivals More Sustainable In 2025| Festival Decor and Event Furniture Hire
As a team of festival lovers, we at Nikkita Palmer Designs all cherish those moments of music, community and simply, festival vibes! Yet, it’s undoubtedly hard to ignore the environmental impact these events can have. From the piles of waste left behind to the carbon emissions of thousands of travellers, the impact is huge! But we all know it doesn't have to be that way.
That’s why, year after year, we’ve been working tirelessly to improve our sustainability practices and minimise our impact, all while still delivering the same high-quality decor and experiences that make festivals truly unforgettable.
In this post, we’re going to be taking you through the 5 Innovative Ways We’re Making Festival Decor More Sustainable in 2025. Because style and sustainability can absolutely be friends!
1) Reusing, Adapting, and Customising
If you know our team and our creations, you will know that this isn’t a new technique for us. Instead, it’s something we are doing every.single.day without fail!
Our furniture and decor items are designed for multiple uses, appearing at numerous events throughout the year. Beyond simple reusing, we adapt and customise our pieces to fit unique colour schemes, brand guidelines and themes of each festival. This includes clever branding, painting, and covering items with new fabrics, making sure that each event has a distinct aesthetic without the need for an entirely new range of items!
2) Sustainable Sourcing
As a furniture hire company, it would be really easy for us to acquire stock from these big, wholesaler names. But this simply isn’t our style.
Instead of acquiring off-the-shelf stock from the big names, we prioritise sourcing materials from local antique fairs, second-hand shops, charities, reclaimed sources, and sustainable suppliers.
Not only are we supporting local, but we are also reducing the environmental impact associated with mass production. We are constantly thinking of ways to give loved props a new lease of life, and you will always find a stock of reclaimed wood and recycled materials in the workshop.
3) Handcrafting with Reclaimed Materials
Need a bench or seating system to fit ten festival-goers? No problem, we’ll craft it ourselves!
Using our treasure trove of reclaimed wood and materials, we hand-build unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that bring character and sustainability to every event. Instead of mass-produced furniture, you’ll get something bespoke, designed specifically for your space.
Plus, by repurposing materials, we’re not just reducing waste, we’re adding a sense of rustic charm that tells a story with every grain and groove!
Find the workshop team a pallet, and get ready to be amazed!
4) Swapping PVC for Reusable Reclaimed Wood and Chalkboards
This year, we’re hoping to see the use of single-use PVC banners replaced with our handcrafted chalkboards and reclaimed wooden signage.
Instead of disposable plastic, we’re suggesting our clients opt for signage that’s not only better for the planet but also adds character to festival spaces. Think rustic wooden entry signs that are directional and clear and chalkboards that can be updated or used as an engaging activation at the event. These simple swaps reduce waste while creating a more natural and thoughtful festival experience.
5. Eco-Friendly Cleaning Practices
Keeping our decor looking its best is of course a priority, but we make sure to do it in a way that’s kind to the planet.
To clean our pieces and for use around the warehouse and across the board, we use eco-friendly cleaning products from EcoFamily, ensuring everything stays fresh without the need for harsh chemicals!
And best believe we found a sustainable solution to cleaning cloths! When we update the fabric on our cane sofas, we don’t just throw the old material away. Instead, we repurpose it into cloths and dusters, giving it a second life and reducing waste in the process. Small changes, big impact!
Making Small, Yet Mighty Differences Every Day
By weaving sustainability into everything we do, we’re not just reducing our impact, we’re redefining festival decor. Every piece we create is thoughtfully designed to be both impressive and eco-friendly, proving that style and sustainability can go hand in hand.
